The United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County

In the words of our director, Shakeva Q. Frazier, “If you do not have a dollar, do you have a bottle?” Read below to find out why.

The United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County donated funds to Third Chance before Earth Day.  The funds were made possible through a partnership with the O-I Glass plant in Ringgold, VA, and United Way.  Glass bottles are recycled at the plant in Ringgold, and the proceeds then go to U.W. to help support a local nonprofit. This is the fourth year the United Way has distributed funds to a local non-profit in the area.  Pictured below: Eben Leigh, U.W. community engagement coordinator, Shakeva Q. Danville Glass Recycling Benefits Housing Nonprofit

Each year, the United Way picks a new agency to receive the money from the recycling program, Cathy Gore, the president and CEO of the local United Way, explained Friday. The nonprofit is one that’s outside of the 20 partner agencies the local United Way already supports.

This year, the board decided that Third Chance Ministries will receive the money from the Glass4Good program, something Shakeva Frazier, the group’s executive director, called a “blessing.”

“Shakeva is knocking it out of the park and we want to support that,” Gore said. “We appreciate the trust that Owens-Illinois has to give the funds to us and we can make the best decisions.”- Danville Register and Bee
